Tour Jordan Royally

I figure I'd share what I found recently at Classical Drive:

cobra couple.jpgWhy is this couple smiling? Because they're driving their classic Cobra in The Jewel that is Jordan, an exclusive (meaning, for folks with money to spare) rallye through the ancient country of Jordan. Forget all that political stuff going on there this week (George Bush wouldn't have a clue how to drive in a rallye anymore than he has a clue how to deal with Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) for this is a great opportunity to drive a vintage automobile through some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. The first The Jewel that is Jordan occurred in October 2003, starting from the Red Sea port of Aqaba. Participants included Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Mrs Aldrin, Patty Hearst and her family, and a host of other lords and ladies less famous but equally well-heeled. The next event takes place from May 10 through 23, 2007 and will visit, among various spectacular locations, Wadi Rum; the ancient Nabataean city of Petra; the Dead Sea; Amman; some ancient Crusader castles; and several Biblical locations. Participants will enjoy the best cuisine and hotels, while driving under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah. Oh well, okay George, you can come along. Bring one of those Texas Cadillacs.
