I Love Paris, an Auto Union Legend

Among all the great articles at Classical Drive, I noticed:

Auto Union RacerTo suggest that I love Paris is hardly an original comment. Yet I was reminded of this affectation when son Philip ("Pappy" to his family) e-mailed photos of a recent business trip, his second this year. Pap's a better writer than me and is so in love with Paris he plans on relocating when his sons are old enough to get along without him. Still, I think he mis-timed his visit. Had he arrived in Paris on Feb 16th, 2007, Pap could have attended Rétromobile, Christie's flagship European auction. Already grabbing headlines is the extraordinary sale of the most complete and original Auto Union known to exist. It was in this car, a 1939 D-Type with twin superchargers and a humbling 485 hp, that Müller won the Grand Prix at Reims and Tazio Nuvolari won at Belgrade, before war intervened to consign these racers into the annals of history. The Silver Arrows of Mercedes and Auto Union cars reached speeds of over 300 km/h in 1937 and well over 400 km/h during land speed record runs. The superiority of these vehicles in international motor racing established the name "Silver Arrow" as a legendary name: Rudolf Caracciola, Bernd Rosemeyer, Hermann Lang, Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, were among the equally legendary drivers who drove it. I've no idea how many dollars or Euros will be paid but I would ask the buyers to display the Auto Union where all motor racing fans can kneel and pay homage.
