Caught: The Day of the Eagle
If you don't read Classical Drive, you're missing out on stuff like:
American cars have seldom done well in Formula One though it's not for lack of trying. UK artist Paul Dove has superbly caught one of those few magic moments with his painting of Dan Gurney winning at Spa, Belgium, in 1967. Gurney is at the wheel of his own F1 Eagle-Weslake in its one-and-only victory. However this blog is not about Gurney, it's about the art of Paul Dove, who has exhibited at Monaco, the Goodwood Festival of Speed; and the Pebble Beach classics in California. Working mostly in oils and acrylic, Dove specialises in vintage motorsport, capturing the emotion and speed in accurate detail. His originals are for sale at reasonable prices but for those who suffer from budget-tightening (which is most of us at this time of year) some of Paul Dove's paintings are available as gicleé prints on paper, which look remarkably similar to originals. I have one on my wall (not by Paul Dove, unfortunately) that fools almost everyone who sees it. Be sure to click on his studio Web site to view the full-range of Dove's paintings.
