MUMBAI (Reuters) — Tata Motors, India’s top vehicle maker, said on Monday it was pleased with the negotiations to acquire Ford Motor’s luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover, and hoped to complete a deal in weeks. It remains to be seen whether Ford is being penny wise and pound foolish. The next XF model for Jaguar looks like it might turn around the fortunes of that long-troubled mark. And while the SUV market is slouching because of the fuel crisis Land Rover still has a strong cache of brand loyalty. We’ll see in a few years if we can say of the two marques: "That’s a fine pair of Tatas!" (My wife knows how long I’ve been waiting to say that)
